Representing The Brandy Lake Association

Environment Report

August 24th at 9am at the Port Carling Community Centre

Water testing has begun again after a normal ice-out and very wet April. Water levels are being
periodically monitored at the creek outlet.

The Muskoka Watershed Council (MWC) has expanded its Blue-Green Algae project to include
more lake associations, thanks to the pilot study lakes, including Brandy Lake. We will ramp up
again this year to monitor regular abundance of algae through the season. The overall program
and volunteers looks like this :

  • MLA spring Phosphorus sample
  • MLA monthly bacteria sampling (Jun-Aug)
  • Lake Partners monthly Phosphorus sampling (2 stations)
  • MWC Blue-Green Algae monitoring bi-weekly (2 stations)

A shout out and thank you to our BLA water sampling volunteers;

  • Kevin Trimble – water level monitoring, data analysis, sampling and analysis assistance
  • Derek Stevens – sampling; bacteria and algae analyses
  • Paige Stevens – sampling; bacteria and algae analyses
  • Andy von Bredow – sampling
  • Phil Luhovy – Lake Partners sampling
  • Don Burn – data analysis assistance
